Intuitive embroidery

In 2004 Soxy undertook an intuitive embroidery project. There was no concept at the start of the project or at the start of each of the four pieces in the series. A circle the size of a bread and butter plate was drawn in pencil on a piece of linen and the embroidery then commenced. No sketching of the pattern either on or off the work was done. The design was worked directly to the fabric using needle and cotton embroidery thread.
The works evolved to include various symbolic elements, colours and patterns.
The first two included the elements of fish, fountain, lilies and waves.
Numbers three and four,  depicted the elements of sea, storm and sea monster and night, moon and offering.
Each of the four pieces took at least 30 hours of fine, close, hand sewing, sometimes in continuous sessions of up to five hours.

The series of four embroideries, mounted and framed were exhibited in 2005 and sold in 2007 and are now in a private collection in Australia.
